Gatlinburg Fishing and Fly Fishing Information
Enjoy the adventure of fighting a trout in part of the 900 miles of rivers and streams that Gatlinburg and the surrounding Park have to offer. All major streams and rivers in Gatlinburg and the surrounding area are regularly stocked with trout while the Great Smoky Mountains National Park remains a haven for native trout. 
In Gatlinburg you're allowed to fish in many of the city's stocked waters including West Prong of the Little Pigeon River, LeConte Creek, Roaring Fork Creek and Dudley Creek. There are also two designated children's fishing areas which are heavily stocked with trout. These are located at North Gatlinburg Park, at the northern Parkway entrance to the city, and Mynatt Park off Historic Nature Trail. Both of these sites are marked with signs which indicate the boundaries of the designated areas. By the way, no fishing of any kind is allowed in Gatlinburg on Thursdays; this is the day that the city stocks its waters with trout. In Gatlinburg, only one hook is allowed, corn and other bait is allowed except between December 1st and March 31st which is strictly "catch and release" and only single hook artificial lures and flys are permitted and all trout caught in must be immediately released unharmed.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is known for the native brook, brown trout, and non-native rainbow trout that inhabit it's streams and rivers. Gatlinburg and the National Park are crawling (or should we say swimming?) with over 900 miles of rivers and streams that are just waiting for you to cast your line. Before you pack up your tackle box, however, there are local and state regulations that have to be observed. For example, children under the age of nine do not require licenses or permits of any kind, whereas adults must possess various combinations of local and/or state licenses but don't let this scare you. Licenses are not expensive and easy to obtain. (Smoky Mountain Angler for licenses and information, 865-436-8746). The requirements vary according to age, and state of residence. For a brochure which explains these regulations in detail, call the Gatlinburg Recreation Department at (865) 436-4990 and ask for their Trout Fishing brochure or call Gatlinburg City Hall at (865) 436-1400. Both locations can also give you specifics regarding the different fishing seasons and fishing limits in the city.
Fishing is permitted in most of the National Park's waters, except for those which are posted otherwise in order to protect certain species of fish. The National Park allows only single-hook lures and flies as bait; no worms, scented lures, corn or natural bait of any kind are permitted. Proper licenses are required.

Lake Fishing and Boating
Douglas Lake is located only 40 minutes north of Gatlinburg yet most visitors to the area are not aware of this fantastic mountain lake. This beautiful lake offers excellent boating, mountain scenery, and fishing.
Douglas Lake is renowned for its Large Mouth Bass and Crappie. Other popular sports fish species include White Bass, Sauger, Black Crappie, Striped Bass, Spotted Bass, Walleye, Blue Cat, Flat Head Catfish, Channel Catfish, Red Horse, Red Breast Sunfish and Bluegill. Douglas Lake is rated one of the top five Crappie fishing lakes in the nation, also in the top 10 in the nation for Large Mouth Bass. Spring and Fall are the more preferred times to fish in Douglas Lake. This recreational lake offers hundreds of square miles to explore, fish, relax and enjoy.
